AI in Manufacturing

Overview of the AI manufacturing intelligence platform.

Manufacturing processes generate large amounts of data every day, from cameras and sensors to machine controls and production systems. The challenge is turning that data into useful information while the process is still running.

At Fraunhofer USA CMA, we develop AI solutions that connect these data sources and turn them into actionable insights and decisions. Our models can assess quality, monitor processes, optimize parameters, identify equipment degradation, and improve production workflows. Our solutions can operate directly on the production line, enabling real-time monitoring and decision-making.

We work with manufacturers from the initial data and process assessment through model development, validation, and deployment. Our modular approach allows solutions to be adapted to new products and processes, as demonstrated by applying the same quality-monitoring architecture to both battery busbars and electric motor hairpins.

Our work spans five areas of AI-enabled manufacturing:

  • Quality Prediction: Predict part quality from the process data your machines already collect.
  • In-Line Process Monitoring: Monitor every part as it is made, including defects that cannot be seen on the surface.
  • Real-Time Parameter Optimization: Detect process deviations and adjust parameters before quality is compromised.
  • Predictive Maintenance: Detect equipment degradation early and support more proactive maintenance.
  • Production Workflow Optimization: Coordinate orders, people, and equipment to make better use of available resources.

Explore What AI Can Do for Your Manufacturing Process

Most of these systems run on data the plant was already producing. We build them to make the decision on the line, while the part is still being made, rather than in a report a week later. Tell us where quality or throughput is costing you and we will build the system that fixes it.
